Piła

The mining theme, embodied in the name, came both literally and figuratively out of the blue when the ground collapsed on one of the building plots in 2008 in a village called Piła, located in a picturesque part of the Tuchola Forest. Step by step, the residents managed to establish what caused the collapse. It turned out that around 100 years earlier there had been six underground mines extracting lignite in this very area. Initially, there was shock and disbelief because how could there be mines in this part of the country? And not opencast mines, as brown coal is usually mined, but underground ones with countless corridors stretching underfoot. The residents and landowners decided at that time to band together in an association to solve this problem. This is how the first non-governmental organization in the history of this village was founded - Stowarzyszenie Mieszkańców i Miłośników Piły nad Brdą "BUKO." This way, the concept of a village with a central theme - the Mining Village - came about.

Creation of the Social Enterprise “Mining Village” Ltd

The first non-for-profit company in the province. Due to the increasing number of tourists visiting the village, the residents decided to set up a social enterprise to run and organise tourism in the village. The BUKO Association set up a limited liability company with 100% ownership by the Association. The social enterprise Mining Village employed 5 inactive and unemployed people from the village, who had gone through a series of workshops carried out by the Association in previous years. Thanks to this action, the first jobs in the village were created.
