How is the concept of Smart Villages defined?

Yes, a definition of ‘Smart Villages’ was formulated in the Luxembourgish CAP Strategic Plan:

“Smart Villages are communities in rural areas that use innovative solutions to improve their resilience, building on local strengths and opportunities. They rely on a participatory approach to developing and implementing their strategy for improving their economic, social and/or environmental conditions, in particular by mobilising the solutions offered by digital technologies.”

Yes, direct Smart Village interventions are planned :

Through the LEADER intervention (COOP(77) – Coopération), support for ‘smart’ approaches is planned as part of the 2023-2027 Luxembourgish Strategic Plan.

‘Village strategy’ and ‘Smart Village’ type of projects can be implemented under the following conditions:

  • the project is carried out for a specific village;
  • the municipality to which the village belongs must be the project leader;
  • the budget per project is between €20,000 and €50,000.
